Breast Augmentation
in Long Island, NY

Breast Augmentation

Whether your breasts are naturally small or have lost volume and shape over time due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, breast augmentation can improve their appearance.

Breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty) is a surgical procedure designed to increase a woman’s confidence by adding volume to her breasts and enhancing their shape for a more aesthetically pleasing bustline.

How Can Breast Augmentation Improve Your Figure?

A Larger Bust

Women with small breasts can undergo breast augmentation using saline, silicone, or gummy bear breast implants to increase their bust size. This procedure can be customized for a subtle, natural appearance or more dramatic results.

Shapelier Breasts

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss can cause breasts to appear deflated or lose their attractive shape. Breast augmentation can restore volume to create a younger-looking breast shape. If additional elevation and perkiness are necessary, it can be combined with a breast lift.

A Balanced Figure

Women who are unhappy with their breasts due to asymmetry or because their breasts are disproportionate to the rest of their body can benefit from breast augmentation. This cosmetic enhancement can achieve a more symmetrical and balanced figure.

Schedule your consultation with Dr. Pincus to find out if you’re a good candidate for a breast augmentation.

What Does Undergoing
Breast Augmentation Involve?

Consultation

What Is the First Step in the Breast Augmentation Process?

Women who desire breast augmentation will first meet with Dr. Pincus for an in-depth consultation to discuss their concerns, goals, and breast augmentation procedure options. Your cosmetic goals, the amount of natural breast tissue you have, and the size of your chest will help determine the correct implant size, type, and placement to achieve your desired outcome.

Dr. Pincus also uses Crisalix Virtual Aesthetics 3D imaging during your consultation so you can visualize your potential results with various implant options.

Implant Type

Which Breast Implant Types Does Dr. Pincus Offer?

Sientra® Silicone Implants:

  • Made with a soft silicone shell pre-filled with silicone gel
  • Feel more natural than saline implants
  • Less likely to rupture than saline implants
  • Ruptures may require an MRI to detect

Saline Implants:

  • A soft silicone shell is filled with sterile saltwater during your procedure
  • Feel slightly firmer than silicone implants
  • Implant rippling is more likely to occur

Implant Placement

What Are Your Breast Implant Placement Options?

Submuscular: Implants are positioned under the glandular breast tissue and pectoral muscle. This technique is ideal for women with minimal natural breast tissue since the muscle softens the implants’ appearance, preventing edges or rippling from showing through. Dr. Pincus prefers this implant location for most patients, but the best option for you depends on your frame, lifestyle, and desired results.

Subglandular: Breast implants are placed between the pectoral muscle and glandular tissue. This method is best for patients who want a more dramatic breast appearance and have enough breast tissue to mask the implant edges effectively.

Incision Location

Where Will the Incisions for My Breast Implants Be Made?

The two most common incisions include the periareolar incision, which is made around the areola, and the inframammary incision, made along the breast crease.

Fat Grafting

What Is Natural Breast Aug in mentation or Composite Breast Augmentation?

While breast implants offer the most significant size increase, women can also use fat grafting to the breasts to increase volume and enhance the shape. Fat grafting is the process of injecting fat cells that have been removed from the body with liposuction. Composite breast augmentation combines breast implants with fat grafting for natural-looking and feeling breasts. When combined, fat grafting provides additional implant coverage and softness to the breasts.

Combinations

Can You Add Other Plastic Surgeries to Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is often combined with breast lift surgery to improve the position and shape of breasts for a more youthful appearance when aging, pregnancy, or significant weight loss has caused them to sag. Breast augmentation is also a common part of a Mommy Makeover.

Can 3D & 4D Imaging Improve My Breast Augmentation Results?

During your consultation, Dr. Pincus will offer imaging with Crisalix Virtual Aesthetics. This state-of-the-art 3D technology renders photos of the patient’s body as a canvas to create the best possible visualization of their potential results. These realistic 3D images allow Dr. Pincus to show you how your breasts will change and the way your whole body will look with different implant types, sizes, shapes, and placement options.

We are also proud to have exclusive rights to The Crisalix 4D Augmented Reality, a new concept in breast imaging. The Augmented Reality Visualizer feature will enable the patient to discover themselves on a large screen as if they are looking in a mirror that shows them with their augmented breasts.

With these imaging experiences, Dr. Pincus can better demonstrate your potential results so you can choose your options accordingly, making this technology a great tool to help ensure your desired outcome.

What are Your Breast Augmentation Concerns?

Recovery

What Is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?

Following your surgery, you must wear a compression garment to aid with swelling and keep you comfortable. Swelling and bruising should subside considerably by the third week after breast augmentation but may last a few months.

Make sure to get plenty of rest and avoid bending or lifting. You can return to work one week after your surgery (with restrictions), and you can resume more demanding activities like exercise after six weeks.

Results

When Will My Breast Augmentation Results Be Final?

You should be able to appreciate your breast augmentation results after most of the swelling and bruising have diminished (between the second and third week of your recovery), but some swelling will persist. You can expect your final results to be clear between six and ten weeks after your surgery.

Many patients report that the boost in confidence from having larger, more shapely breasts far exceeds their expectations.

Scars

Does Breast Augmentation Leave Visible Scars?

Scarring will vary based on the specific incision used for your procedure.  Visible scars are typically well hidden under the breast or around the areolas and fade well over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation?

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation must be in good health and have realistic expectations. You will also be asked to quit smoking and using other nicotine products for at least three weeks before and after your procedure.

How long will my breast augmentation results last?

Breast augmentation can provide long-lasting results, and your implants can last many years.

Does Dr. Pincus offer textured breast implants?

Dr. Pincus does not offer textured breast implants as they are more prone to cause complications than smooth implants. He typically uses silicone implants manufactured by Sientra® that have a round shape and smooth surface.

How will I know which breast implant size is right for me?

Our Crisalix 3D and 4D imaging combined with Dr. Pincus’ recommendations (based on your breast anatomy) will give you a tremendous advantage when choosing your implant size so that you can have confidence in your final decision.

Are there any risks or side effects with breast augmentation?

As with most surgical procedures, there are some risks and side effects involved with breast augmentation. These may include:

  • Infections
  • Bleeding
  • Asymmetry
  • Changes in sensation
  • Poor wound healing

Following all of Dr. Pincus’ instructions will help reduce your risk of breast augmentation complications.

Will I be able to breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Your ability to breastfeed will be determined by where your implants are placed. You can discuss these concerns with Dr. Pincus during your consultation.

Is there an age requirement to undergo breast augmentation?

Women who are over the age of 18 with breasts that are fully developed may undergo breast augmentation. However, it is recommended that you be 22 years or older for your breast augmentation procedure. Silicone implants are FDA approved for patients 22 years and older, while saline implants are FDA approved for patients 18 and over.

How much does breast augmentation cost?

Your breast augmentation surgery cost will vary based on several factors, such as surgical fees, anesthesia fees, and techniques used. Dr. Pincus will provide you with a price sheet to determine the best options for your surgery.
